The PlayStation is certainly one of the most popular gaming platforms. But their path to the top was gradual, from a humble beginning to a global phenomenon. Nowadays it is one of the most popular platforms in the world. And all this because they have a large number of games at an affordable price, so it is available to everyone. But only a few people know all about their history. A lot of time has passed since the appearance of the first platform in 1993 until today. During all that time a lot of things happened that have a lot of effect on the look of the console and the way we use it.
PlayStation
PSOne or the first PlayStation had its premiere on the Japanese shelves in 1994. The console came to Europe a year later. By 1995, the PSOne had sold in million copies in Japan. Although, the situation in Europe was a little bit weaker. But with time the number of games grow, and at the same time sales of consoles grew. Between 1993 and 1998, the PS was sold 80 million copies.

PlayStation 2
The successor to the first console, it came on the shelves in 2000. But this time arrived on all markets on the same day. Unlike the first console, this one had the highest sales in Europe of 1,680,000 copies. The PlayStation 2 is Sony’s first console that takes advantage of the Internet, providing its users with the ability of network multiplayer. Four years later, the PS 2 Slim arrived on the market, and a year later, a portable version arrived. The PlayStation 2 is for sure one of the most successful gaming consoles in history.

PlayStation 3
PlayStation 3 came first on the market in 2006, but only in Japan and America. Europe needs to wait for this console a little bit longer, in Europe came in 2007. The PS brand and its third console have become the most lucrative part of Sony and have been sold in 75 million units by 2013.

PlayStation 4
The fourth PlayStation arrived on the market on November 29, 2013, and over time they provide users a bunch of options such as storing saved positions on the cloud, streaming to tablets, computers, and smartphones. Finally, Sony also introduced PS VR, a virtual reality platform that uses the PlayStation 4 as a source. The PS 4, like its predecessors, arrived in several versions.

The PlayStation 5 is the most anticipated product in the world of consoles, but also much wider. After years of speculation, Sony finally went public in early June 2020 with official information on what the new PS 5 will look like and what innovations it will bring. The PlayStation 5 came in stores on November 12, 2020. in the United States, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea. A week later, 19.11. it became available in the rest of the world.
There is also a rumor that will be compatible with earlier PS games. In case that’s true, there’s a chance that we will wait some time until we get all that games on PlayStation 5.
